That includes the encounter that bookends the episode, in which Sharon melts enough to let Ted call her “Doc,” speaks admiringly of the atmosphere of niceness and openness he’s cultivated with the club, then challenges him to figure out why AFC Richmond still hasn’t won a game. So far, Sudeikis and Sarah Niles’s scenes together have been some of this still-young season’s best. Is she telling him something about himself he didn’t know, or does Ted recognize she’s invulnerable to his well-honed people skills? That latter seems more likely. When she calls him on it, it’s tough to read the expression on Ted’s face. Ted reveals himself as more self-analytical than perhaps Sharon has suspected, but she also sees what he’s doing, the way he uses folksiness and approachability to “disarm” others. Ted changes the subject by asking Sharon her favorite book, and their relationship shifts. Or maybe she’s just denying herself, as Ted used to do, and maybe still does, with video games when, “in reality,” he’s determined, “all I’m doing is depriving myself of something that makes me happy instead of trying to adjust my relationship to it.”

And she has good reason not to eat sugar because, in her words, “In a past life, I would inhale a Cadbury Flake and talk nonsense for an hour until I pass out.” She’s someone with the discipline to scoot away from bad habits.

But it doesn’t work because Sharon, as she’s now letting others call her, doesn’t eat sugar. Ted begins the episode trying to win her friendship the way he (eventually) won Rebecca’s: with biscuits. Sharon Fieldstone, those abilities have seemingly met their match. And he’s not always honest with himself about his limitations, including his ability to generate goodwill with humor and charm. He’s gambled, for instance, on niceness being the answer to all of AFC Richmond’s problems when it might only be an answer to some of the team’s problems. And often Ted does play that role, and well. It would be easy for Jason Sudeikis to make Ted into a smiling Guru of the Great Plains who always has all the answers and the right words to turn those answers into pithy phrases. But here’s one element contributing a lot to its success: Ted Lasso works because it’s concerned with what makes Ted Lasso work.
TED LASSO SEASON 2 EPISODE 1 ENDING SONG CRACK
The Ted Lasso season 2 finale is next Friday, Oct.What makes Ted Lasso work? We could probably spend hours trying to crack that nut, and it might make the show less fun if we succeeded. Which song from this week’s episode is your favorite? Can he come back from this or do you want Nate out of the picture for good? How dare he kiss Keeley? And to go out of his way to hurt Ted? That’s low, Nate. However, that gives him no right to mistreat others. Nate also desperately seeks approval from his dad, who shows no emotion towards him. For starters, I don’t think he likes himself. I want to hate Nate, but I also can’t help but feel bad for him. I love this song, and it’s very fitting to the situation. I’m so worried about Roy and Keeley! They make such an adorable couple, I hope they stay together. “Cold/Mess” by Prateek KuhadĬan you say heartbreak? When Roy Kent cries, we all cry! I don’t believe Keeley is having second thoughts, but that doesn’t make this confession any easier for either of them.

Rebecca and Ted are the best TV BFFs! I love their friendship. Ted never judges Rebecca, not even for a minute. This beautiful little tune plays as Rebecca is telling Ted about Sam. And when is Ted ever wrong? “Gut & Heart” by Marcus Mumford & Tom Howe Sharon at her goodbye party, Ted thought a performance from the team to this iconic song was a good idea.
